Internet Radio Program - Discovering Ohio

"Discovering Ohio" is an internet radio program about Ohio events.  There are many events with good causes that go unnoticed because of a lack of resources or exposure.  We decided to support the organizers of any fun, educational and interesting events in Ohio by providing them an effective channel to promote themselves.  This was why "Discovering Ohio" was born in 2009.

Note: Our season for 2009 has ended and will start with some brand new episodes in spring/summer 2010!  Please contact us if you have any spring and summer events you want to promote.

(1) Does it cost me anything to be on Discovering Ohio?
No, it is completely free to be a guest on the show.  You will be able to promote your events to a wider audience.  The shows are promoted through different social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter as well as the internet radio platform called BlogTalkRadio (which will be the platform we will be using to record the show).  You can even download the show at no cost after it has been uploaded and put it on your own website or blog.

(2) How long is your radio show?
The show is going to be around 20-30 minutes long depending on the materials we will be covering.

(3) What is the style of your radio show?
It is in an interview format.  The questions will be focused on one particular event the organizers want to promote.  However, there will be other questions around the organization as well as related issues.
At the end of the show, you can plug in any other future program or event you may have.

(4) Is there any preparation I need to do?

Yes, 5 things need to be provided to us at least 3 days before the scheduled show time.  However, we appreciate if you can send in your information as early as possible.

1) A short bio (a few lines) from each of the guests

2) A backup phone number (e.g. cell number) so we can reach you in case there are technical difficulties when you call in.  The cell number will enable us to call you to resolve the issue. Therefore, this has to be a different number from where you are calling in.

3) The event you will be promoting + a weblink or flyer of the event.  This allows us to get some preliminary information about the event to plan the interview.  We will also put the weblink of your event on the show page for maximum exposure.

4)
For interviews with more than one guest, please let us know who will be in a better position to answer certain types of questions.

5) If you provide us with the link of a good headshot (optional), we can post it on our Facebook page and show page when we promote your interview. You can find one on your Facebook profile or other online photo albums, right click on the photo, look under the "image properties" and give us the address location of that photo (which usually ends with .jpg).

(5) How many of us can be on your radio show?

1 or 2.

(6) Do I have to travel to your studio for the interview?
No, being a green business, we do not ask you to travel a long way to Newark if you do not live nearby.  All the interviews are conducted through telephone.  All we ask is you call us through a reliable land line in a quiet room - somewhere you will not be disturbed or with loud noises around you.  The call-in number is (347) 838-9603.

(7) What is the call-in number and what do I need to do?

Your call-in number is (347) 838-9603.  This number stays the same for every show.  Please dial the call-in number 15 minutes before the show time. After you dial the number, follow the instructions and press "1" to talk to the host when you are prompted with the options.

(8) I'm not very good at live interviews. What should I do?
The internet radio show is very casual and is just like a normal conversation with your friends.  The only difference is the show is more structured and you will be answering the questions from the host most of the time.  For some sample shows, listen to the past interviews on my internet radio show page.

(9) Any other advice about the radio interview?
Any answer that lasts for a few sentences is a good rule-of-thumb.  This will allow you to give concise information to the question asked as well as an opportunity for the host to ask follow-up questions.
At the end of the show, you can plug in any other future program or event you may have.  So make sure you come prepared and do not pass up the opportunity to cross-promote events!

(10) Where can I find your past radio interviews of Discovering Ohio?

You can find it on our internet radio show pageRegister as a listener on BlogTalkRadio (it's free and easy), save our episodes on your favorite list and get reminders.  You can listen to them live, download them to your computer or save them to your iPod.

(11) Is Discovering Ohio on iTunes store?

Of course we are. Just search for "Discovering Ohio" there. ;)

(12) Why do I need to register for a BlogTalkRadio account?

Once you sign up for a free account, you can add favorites, get reminders, leave comments, message hosts and other listeners and download shows in no time. Otherwise, you will remain as an anonymous listener without the ability to interact on the site.  You will not show up as a listener in the "listeners" box either.  If you want to show support to your own or your friends' interview, please follow these instructions:

1) Sign up for a BlogTalkRadio account.

2) Upload a profile photo (it will only work when you have a photo...no matter what it may be).

3) Listen to the show WHILE you are logged on.  After around 20 minutes or so, your profile photo should show up in the "listeners" box.  If not, just refresh the page and check again.

4) Leave a comment on the show page or the episode page.

(13) What if my friends want to call in during the show to ask questions?

Your friends can use the same call-in number (347-838-9603) to dial in during the show.  They can also use the "click to talk" feature at the show, which allows any listener with a computer, internet connectivity and a microphone to call in from anywhere in the world at no charge.  They can also ask questions through the chatroom, which will be opened by the host during the show.  A simple registration for a free BlogTalkRadio account is necessary to use those functions.

(14) How soon can I download the show?

The interview is automatically recorded and uploaded.  It usually takes less than 30 minutes for the recording to be ready for download.  However, if the sound quality is poor, it may be removed and edited before it is uploaded again.  In some cases, the show may need to be re-recorded.  So it is best to stay in a quiet place with a reliable phone line during the interview.

(15) Do you do PSAs?
Absolutely! Just send the details of your event through our contact us form.
